G-Nitro’s Daily Music Wrap-Up – 09/16/24

Daily 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die selection:

Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd – Jazz Samba – Rating: 3 / 5

I think I’m going to have to go with a 3 out of 5 on this album rating. At times I was leaning higher, but honestly by the end of the album I was left yearning for something more. Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd do a pretty decent job with performing Brazilian style music, but its not great. Thankfully you can tell they are doing more appreciation than appropriation when bringing the samba feel to this album, yet it never fully clicks. It just needed to bring more of the samba energy and Latin flavor, yet Getz and Byrd never fully delivered it.

Other albums:

Juliet Ivy – tiny but scary EP – Rating: 4.25 / 5

I originally discovered Juliet Ivy via Tik Tok when I got addicted to her song “we’re all eating each other”. I listened to that song in particular a lot in 2023. Ivy’s latest EP is just as addictive with 5 dreamy indie pop tracks that are guaranteed ear worms, and when paired with the music videos and her sweet voice, it’s hard not to be captivated. The only downside are most songs are less than 3 minutes, so the EP’s length is unfortunately just under 14 minutes long.
