So this part three of my Next Fest demo impressions will be the last for single player titles. I am hoping to play some co-op and multiplayer games this weekend and put up one final impression post by Sunday or Monday.
AI disclosure: I personally do not like the use of AI, and therefore did not play any demos that disclosed AI usage at the time of this writing. I checked every game’s description looking for a disclosure. I do my best to not support games that utilize AI.
Raanaa The Shaman Girl
Another game without inverted options. It’s just super disappointing that this continues to be an issue. I made an attempt at the game without it, and immediately died on the first jump because I was disoriented. A shame, because I was interested in this one.
Super Alloy Crush
Goddamn this demo was a blast. The boss fight was a bit annoying as a couple times I flew into the air and I was getting hit by his ground pound. Outside of those moments, it never felt super cheap or annoying. Overall I felt this fast paced brawler felt really good, and I’m looking forward to playing more of this one. Definitely has a cute PC that I can get down with.
Misspell
It looks pretty, except for serious frame tearing. The problem is sadly not fixable in this demo, as I could not access the video settings. I assume this will be available in the release version, but still feels weird to not have it in the demo. There’s something about the combat and enemy movement that I wasn’t a huge fan of, but its hard to explain outside of it just felt a bit off to me. Could be due to the frame tearing issues I was having.
Yuma Nest
It’s bright and colorful, but it is pretty boring and uninteresting. I made it to the 2nd part of the demo after the initial battle and just was bored out of my mind. The combat is not fun, and it feels and looks like a free to play mobile game throughout. I just couldn’t muster up enough energy to continue this and quit.
Wildblue Skies
It’s definitely Star Fox reskinned. It looks pretty good and the flying feels fine, but just like Star Fox games, I was bored. The first boss popped up and I could feel myself checking out as the fight went on. I think a lot of people will enjoy this, but it just ain’t me.
RACCOIN: Coin Pusher Roguelike
Wow this was a blast. I didn’t want the demo to end, as I was having that much fun. This is nostalgic with my memories of playing the coin games in the arcade, and while those memories are of me never winning, this one gives you a chance lol. I love the rogue-lite elements of various power ups, special coins, and more. When I finally got a coin tower to appear, and then drop, I screamed out in excitement. This is a must buy!
People of Note
This game looks amazing aesthetically. Love the bright colors, especially the MC’s synthwave color palette. Music in this demo is also on point, and I love how it’s incorporated into the battle.s As someone who isn’t great at rhythm games, I’m glad they have easier modes and even an option to Skip battle if you’re really struggling. This definitely seems like a game I will snag at
