Jazmine Sullivan – Heaux Tales – Rating: 3.5 / 5

This album was interesting, but I struggle to figure out why it is on this list when so many better R&B albums from the 90s to present are ignored. I found her interludes where she was explaining feelings and thoughts were more compelling than the songs. In fact, the talking tracks stuck with me more than any of the songs did after the album was over.

Redman – Muddy Waters Too – Rating: 4.5 / 5

We continue to eat well in the hip hop scene this year with old heads coming back to drop fire. Redman does just that with his latest release. When rappers drop sequel albums, they are usually albums that fail to even remotely live up to the original. On top of that, the album is almost 1 ½ hours long. While it doesn’t live up to the original Muddy Waters, because it would have been a tall order to fulfill, it’s still a fire album full of bangers.
