Daily 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die selection:
Scissor Sisters – Scissor Sisters – Rating: 3.5 / 5
Based on the group name, I felt duped when I heard a dude start singing lol. Besides that, I honestly thought this was a fun album for the most part. I think the first half of the album is by far superior to the second half. It’s got a good mix of some disco, pop, and rock. I wish the female co-lead singer had more presence than the guy, but it is what it is. A solid 3.5

Toko Furuuchi – フツウのこと – Rating: 4 / 5 – Vinyl/Packaging Rating: 4.5 / 5
I bought one of Toko’s albums last year on sale and really enjoyed, so when I saw a couple more were reissued on vinyl, I snagged them. This is the first of the two I bought. It’s a 2004 release and is a pretty chill J-Pop release. It’s not super sugary idol stuff, but more of a mellow sound. One of the songs, “スーパーマン”, had a very City Pop-esque vibe to it and probably my favorite on the album. Definitely worth checking out. The vinyl is a transparent pink, which is becoming common amongst Japanese reissues now. The rest of the packaging is really nice though. We get a gatefold cover that is sturdy, and includes an obi strip. It also comes with a fold out lyrics insert, and plastic inner sleeves for the vinyl.

Vinyl Moon 109: Blink and You’ll Bliss It – Rating: 3.75 / 5 – Vinyl/Packaging Rating: 5 / 5
This was an interesting mix of Indie Pop and Rock tracks, and while I enjoyed it, I don’t think this was one of Vinyl Moon’s better compilations. A lot of the album blended together, with the only real standout songs being the synthwave infused track of Crunchybird “Dardebil”, and the Nigerian choir track of Kabusa Oriental Choir “Soso [Choir Version]”. Packaging wise, Vinyl Moon once again doesn’t miss. We get the gatefold cover with a lenticular eyeball that changes based on angle. The vinyl itself played without issue and is the VIP edition, which is clear with multi-color splatters. Inner sleeve is their normal sturdy anti-static style.
