G-Nitro’s Daily Music Wrap-Up – 09/07/24

Daily 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die selection:

808 State – 90: Rating 2 / 5

A middling EDM effort from the 80’s. Just another example of how this 1001 albums list is more about pushing mediocre British musicians and their albums, than actually showcasing albums you must hear before you die. This album was so uninteresting that I tuned out about 2 songs in and nothing brought my attention back until I realized things went silent.

Other albums:

moë – OCCULT – Rating: 4 / 5

I’ve become a City Pop fiend of the last 5 years or so, and I love finding newer artists. I came across moë while perusing the City Pop hashtag on Bandcamp as I loaded up my wishlist for another Bandcamp Friday. I was immediately hooked on the tunes from the brief listen I gave at that moment, and now that I’m sitting through the entire album I am glad I purchased this one. The city pop vibes are melodic and catchy, and moë’s soft, almost breathy at times, voice flows nicely along with the music. A couple tracks even break free from the city pop aesthetic to bring a more danceable j-pop sound.
