This was so bland. Elvis Costello’s voice is dull as hell, which sucks because some of the songs have catchy instrumentation and production. I got about halfway through and bailed, so excited to move on from this album after having 2 of theirs pop now. Then a friend was there to inform me there are 5 other albums by him on this list and I wanted to cry… Someone please force the author of these books to enforce a 2 or 3 album minimum per artist…. JFC…

Poppy – Negative Spaces – Rating: 3.25??? / 5

I continue to listen to Poppy even after she left behind the pop music I enjoyed the most from her multiple albumsago. Due to the situation she was in during those 2 albums, I try to not complain much and have continued to listen to her albums as she grows as an artist. It’s honestly been tough at times as someone who isn’t a huge metal fan, especially when it comes to screaming being front and center over singing, which many songs on this album feature. Through much of this album, it was up and down on my levels of enjoyment. When it is straight rock music without the screaming I absolutely love the music, but when the screaming takes over on some tracks it is too jarring for me and my enjoyment plummets. So I’ve been conflicted over the rating I want to leave, and not even sure if the one I provide truly is correct to my feelings because of how much I struggled to come up with it. Honestly I could see myself changing my mind about the score in either direction as I give the album repeat listenings down the road.
